Conference on the security situation in Afghanistan
In 2015, 23,500 asylum seekers of Afghan origin were registered in Sweden as unaccompanied minors. They have waited for years for their asylum verdicts, and most had their applications rejected, based on the Migration Board’s assessment of the security situation in Afghanistan.
The latest legal position on security in Afghanistan was taken in August 2017. No new assessment is announced, in spite of frequent reports of increasing violence and an escalating war situation. There is a need of updating the knowledge base.

Professor William Maley,Professor of Diplomacy at the Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy, ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, Australia. His field is migration and political theory, with a special interest in Afghan politics.
Dr Niamatullah Ibrahimi, Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. He has examined the dynamics of statebuilding and social mobilisation in Afghanistan.
Dr Liza Schuster, Reader in Sociology, City University of London. Researcher on the situation of deported and re-migrated to Afghanistan.
Mr Anders Fänge, former Country Director of the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan.
Ms Vera Meijering, Department of Interdisciplinary Social Science, Utrecht University. Coordinator of the EU campaign Don’t send Afghans back!
Save the Children Sweden (Rädda Barnen) will present a new report on children’s situation in Afghanistan and Sweden.

The conference is held as part of the initiative for an European day of action on October 8, 2018, initiated by the European network Don’t Send Afghans backand Amnesty International EU.
